That tube looks like pretty thick walled stuff, so I don't think the original would have had any metal armature inside. They must have used some sort of plug to slot the mount into. I have no idea how many mounting points it had bit it would only have been one of four possible ones at the centre junction. I think you'll be fine with just the acrylic.
