I'm going with the halogen lights - heat and all. I won't be able to keep them on too long and that's ok.
I decided when I started this kit that I want as much studio model accuracy as possible regardless of the final look or function. I'll leave the brass wire plugs exposed with the wires hanging out and an on-off switch on the power cord. This way it will be displayed with wires showing like it would have been used while filming. I'll be able to turn the lights on and off without fiddleing with the brass plugs.
Maybe not a conventional approach but it's what I wanted for this model.
