OK, now I have started a new thread, in the completed section, ill detail down some on what was used to complete this replica.
The model started out, as a Nice N red Jammer kit. I had all plans to begin converting this, using just the hull to a Gold leader.
The model was well on its way, but a change of plans, and the advent of some newly released reference, of Gold 5, changed my plans a lot.
All parts, as much as I could stomach were removed, and replaced with a good portion of parts to make this conversion possible.
All plumbing was also removed and reconfigured to this model, it was soul destroying, but also an operation in delicacy removing all of this.
Once the model was brought much more up to par, it was time to follow on from my Red 3 Pyro Xwing, and start researching the paints used.
Now, i was working in Floquil enamels, which are quite different to the earlier, period lacquer paints used at the time of its conception, but i was able to make some very nice finds, as, knowing the Floquil catalog, it limits the research and confirms many colours used at the time.
Once the palette was chosen, it just meant mixing them to a closer tone, that matched the original colours, and reference material this wasn't very easy, but close was fine for me.
The base coat used was an off white, as not to be too stark on the weather pattern.
The detailing hues were as follows in Floquil.
Foundation
Flesh
Depot Buff
Reefer Yellow
Reefer Grey
Grime
Weathered Black
SP light lark grey
Rust
Once all these were laid down, and the weather pattern suitably adorned, i went about applying the many decals on the model. I used many decals, from the 1/24 Harrier, and Tamiya Matilda.
The decals are not all correct, they are very hard to read from the available pictures, so close calls were made, and i have one to add that i believe is from a Micromark decal set, i still need to find this, but no rush at all, i managed to complete my Y, after four years of it sat on the shelf in a sorry state, so this year has been a good year so far, three very key ANH replicas, and from here, many more to follow, as I'm finding my passion for building and painting has grown so much, and will continue to keep having fun, albeit in my second wind of this hobby.
Best Regards............
