RE: The Betty - 427 Cobra - 01-30-2010 This is badass the world over! I wish I could do stuff like this, and make it look easy like you did. RE: The Betty - erospawn - 01-30-2010 I don't know what "The Betty" is, other than the japanese WWII plane.. Other than that, it looks like really clean build. Are you using "bondo" at all? Pic #5 kind of looks like the gray putty stuff I used a little bit. RE: The Betty - JAWS - 01-30-2010 Aliens Ron. This is a sick build. Ive been watching your progress on the RPF. Thanks for sharing this here. I look forward to updates on this. Thanks guys, its from Alien Resurrection. i use bondo on the foam to smooth it out, you can use straight primer but it takes longer to get a smooth finish. RE: The Betty - erospawn - 01-30-2010 Thanks Jason.. that would explain it.. I never really watched any of the aliens movies. RE: The Betty - 427 Cobra - 01-30-2010 The original "Betty" was in "AlienS" with a big old S!
RE: The Betty - Wombat - 01-30-2010 Good to see you here and posting this mate! Look's to be going very well there from what you've shown, and and it's good to see this one is still moving along.I'd never taken much notice of this ship before, but after watching AR not that long ago you can see that it's a pretty cool ship in looks and the way it functions, although it's not the easiest to make out too much detail in the show. You're doing an outstanding job though recreating this one!! RE: The Betty - JAWS - 01-30-2010 Yep thats correct Cris. Aliens! This will be a difficult build 9 line but as Phil said you seem to have pretty well sussed. RE: The Betty - LastBattlestar - 01-30-2010 The Betty was seen in Alien Resurrection, the fourth Alien movie, although we'd all prefer to forget the movie! Good to see you here Al, I've been missing updates on this build. This is the one where the female pilot was killed by the alien (blood smear against the window). The original "Betty" was supposed to be the Narcissus from the first movie. There's a tiny sticker on the model by the window of a pin-up girl, and the name beside it is "Betty". Why they named it the Narcissus,is because Ridly Scott felt that this was "more appropriate",and industrial sounding. They incorporated the name into the second movie, but it was only mentioned briefly by corpral "Hudson" (Bill Paxton),when the Betty was destroyed. "The only other control was on the APC,(Betty)and it's wasted man"! This is when "Bishop" has to crawl down the long service tunnel to get the to the control panel to pilot the second dropship. The name Betty was affectionately given to the dropship because it wasn't used in the first movie. I'll have to post this photo directly,as my photobucket account is fucked up - some asshole hacked my password! This will have to do for now. The red arrow is where the betty decal was applied. I'll look for the website I got this from, but I can't guarantee anything. There should be at least one photo of the "Betty" in "Aliens. This was on the side right by the cockpit. The "Betty" was the name of the dropship in both movies. Why? - Your guess is as good as mine! RE: The Betty - erospawn - 01-30-2010 ah "Event Horizon" is still one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi movies

Oh,so the ships were named Betty,it's not actually the same ship as what is being built in this thread. Now i'm with ya!! Still,i didn't even know about the dropship being named Betty or the rename in the first movie.Thats interesting that the name was,or was intended to be used in most of the movie's.Good bit of info that Chris! RE: The Betty - JAWS - 01-30-2010 Boys this thread is going sideways. Sorry 9 Line. RE: The Betty - 9 line - 01-31-2010 Thanks guys for the kind welcome, glad your enjoying the pics. no problem going sideways, as long as everyones liking it, i also like the little bits of movie trivia, i didnt know that about the drop ship. Thanks Al RE: The Betty - Apophis - 01-31-2010 howdy Al! RE: The Betty - 427 Cobra - 01-31-2010 Philip Rae was the guy who built the Narcissus from scratch, and he also made the "Betty". At that time he named it after his girlfriend whom he never married. The decal was on there before he named the craft. The decal was simply from a 1/32nd scale WW II bomber. As back in the early days of maritime law,it was customary to name your vessel after a girl for good luck. This was later adopted by the military when WW I broke out. The plane was usually named after a girl they knew at home. Sometimes they would name it for something they liked,or admired such as,their hometown,or a favourite saying. It wasn't until WW II that pilots started to paint a picture of a girl with her name on the side of the plane they flew. The "Betty" of "Aliens" was the name of the first dropship that the team flew in. The second one was simply called " the dropship ". The APC was the tank like vehicle that the team was dropped to the surface of the planet in. APC = Amoured Personell Carrier. This was based off an actual airline vehicle. There were two of these made for the movie with an RC model version made for scenes where a large, and expensive stage set would have to be made normally, but scaled down to RC size to save the cost of doing so. In the scenes of the "Betty" right before the pilot was to be killed by the alien - you can see the red decal circle, and the girls black leotard colours are inverted from the original decal, but it's because of the dark colouring of the ship itself. Otherwise,it's painted to be exactly the same as the original decal on the Narcissus. There was an excellent site that Philip Rae hosted where he explained all this in detail, but it's long gone from the internet. This was pulled sometime last year. There's another site devoted to behind the scenes photos of the models from "Alien",but it's not good for much else. There are a few good shots of the models, but these are mostly of them in their finished state. RE: The Betty - scratchy - 02-08-2010 That's a nice looking build, haven't seen much of the Aliens movies.... but I know a kick ass model when I see one! The subtle weathering is well done! RE: The Betty - 9 line - 02-08-2010 I started molding some parts, i started with the small part behind the engine support. Thanks for looking. Al Heres the mold box, making sure its level. ![]() the pattern in the mold box. ![]() had a little left over resin, cool. ![]() casting the parts ![]() Finished parts and pattern. ![]()
