SS Probe Droid with stop motion arms. - Ralphee - 10-28-2011

Thought, if you guys dont mind, id post up the ongoing build of my Probe droid.
This started out in life as a NiceN kit, but has had a plethora of upgrades, including 99% of the original cast in greeblies being removed and replaced with actual donor kit parts.
As most of you know, it also has scratchbuilt stop motion arms now.
Ill go through my pics, and slowly post it all up here with some explanations as to what was done where.

First up, the head, most of the cast parts were shaved off, including a lot of the eyes, the top hat of the head, was badly warped and sagged, so this too had to be devoid of kit parts, and levelled up with Bondo.

From here, a LOT of primer coats and buffing in had to be done, here is the head in the stages of this process, pretty long winded, but this was a really awful casting, with many rough areas to be made good.

Finally, getting a bit cleaner, and using the more expensive primers lol. As you can see, ALL the small Plastruct lamps were replaced, as the cast ones, were incorrect, and really nasty.

OK, thats all for now, ill post up some more later.

bests.........lee

Thanks Jase, appreciate that from a guy who REALLY takes it to another level.
Well, once the head was acceptable, work began on the body, again, most of the donors were replaced after being shaved off, along with a new "chest box" being built and added.

There was a rather big "wow" in the underskirt lip, this had to be levelled off too.

An example as to why the cast in donors were removed, ugh, nasty!
And relax......

The bare bones really, not much remains now of the original kit detailing.
Starting to apply donors now.

Once i got to a happy stage with the head and body, work began on making accurate stop motion legs, not the most easy task ive ever undertook, but, it worked out!

The first leg test fitted.
Then giving me a helping hand.
How i made the Saturn V can, become a leg joint!
Legs are now sprouting.
The hardest of the legs to build, four joints, NOT easy to align.
Making a mess......
Stay on target....oh wait, wrong part of the trilogy lol.
A quick vid to show how a leg functions, these are for a commision, but it gives you an idea of how it all pans out a few grey hairs later.

Ill post up how my droid sits now in a while, he's almost done now!

Enjoy, and thanks for looking........lee
