I've noticed that 2.5 sets of pieces from the Gepard are used, so I cast them up last weekend. I also cast the single piece used from the SRN4.

It looks fascinating! I was only (vaguely) familiar with the "Aunt Jemimah" style of Sherman Mine Roller, and I sure had not heard of this version before.
Someone who either owns that kit, or, has a link to a detailed review of it on-line, would be needed for some pictures and/or measurements.
For my own build, I am for whatever works! It'd be awesome to have all the original model kit ID's.

I've been collecting kits as well; got a Gepard in yesterday, and another Leopold. The joy of part ID's continues... and, I discovered what makes up the end-caps for the Saturn V halves! L'eggs containers, dangit. Here's a pic of me fitting the (one!) vintage L'egg that I do own to the First Stage half.

In the continuing quest discover what might make up the engine pads, I am gambling on it being a Williams Brothers product, specifically, the Wright J-5 Whirlwind engine cylinder.
The William's Brothers aviation engines fit the correct time period, and were available in a multitude of scales. The R/C modeling crowd has used these products for decades to appropriately "period-dress" their models, so, while it's a gamble, it is not inconceivable...
The lower portion of the engine cylinder is an amazingly close match... but figuring out just which scale of the J-5 is the question! I'm really hoping that it is the 1/5th scale 'cause I just ordered up four of them.

Until someone else provides a better match within available parts from the 1979 time frame, I am calling this identified: 1/5 scale Wright J-5 Whirlwind from the William's Brothers aviation engine kit. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks for the good thoughts! Casting this would be... a challenge. And not cheap. It's early days still, I'm still trying to ID parts and obtain them. We'll have to see what the parts pile looks like be saying yay or nay.

That made me go back and look at what other captures I have from that angle. And, it would appear that there are 2 tanks: the one you spotted behind the cockpit, and also on the aft lower section:

Yeh I think there's either a whole or half tank top and bottom behind the cockpit.
I also think the small tank on the other side of the cockpit is from the Linberg station, just cutdown.
At this rate we should have all the parts in about 5-6 years :-)

Ordinarily I'd agree. However, I got word today that an old friend passed away on Monday the 10th -- and he was my age, give or take a year. Viral pneumonia, or, the flu.
It was just an abrupt reminder to not waste time... because none of us know just how much we have left. He'd be the first one to tell me '"just build the darn ship and zoom it around the room!'"

More (tentative!) parts ID's...
For the cylindrical tanks on the landing legs, the Monogram 1/48 scale 500lb bomb is nearly a match in size and shape. They were certainly available in the late 1970's! The various B-17 versions had them, and well as the 1/48 B-29 kit.
I am not saying "Eureka! This is the part!" because I don't know that. But it's the closest kit part that I have seen so far.

Also, the Space Shuttle with a Shuttle Bay interior became available by 1978 from Revell; possibly Monogram and Airfix. The exterior of the Akir Weather Satellite certainly has one of these parts!

There has been progress this past week, but mainly on gathering up greeblies / nurnies and seeing what needs to be cast for multiple copies. I mean, I'm a huge fan of the ship, but I am *not* buying 9 Leopolds just for part B-71!!!! Almost as bad for the Gepard Flakpanzer - one for the hauler, and two more for the cargo area...

That quad body is one of the unsung hero's of studio scale=2 for Cowboy's ship,2 for the Geminii Frieghter,2 for the Crane in the Basestar hangar, and I nearly binned mine.....Looking great so far:-)

The Gepard, 2 sets -- the starboard forward section of the freight platform, and the 1 Gepard part on the starboard cab section.
Our old friend, Leopold part B-71... I've got a count of 9 of them at the moment. If there are more, I plan to be prepared!
L'Eggs lower dome section, 2 needed, cut carefully in half. These will cap off the Saturn V first stage cylinders.
I plan to make copies of some of the Matilda parts that are cylinders, as those look like they will be darn handy for ship builds. Then I can glue them onto the aft of the freight platform.
Re-reading this before posting, I can clearly see that I've hit the 'whining' stage of the build. That is a natural milestone for me!

Ermmm... thanks! However, I already have all the parts and have been doing molding and casting these past 2 weeks or so. Classic case of me not exactly grasping what you had written!
A factor that I have been dealing with is: use the genuine styrene parts, or use copies that I have made for the model?
When possible, I normally use the styrene. The Lunar Lander is an example: I got a case of these from Starship Modeler for a great price (near cost!) so I don't need resin copies of it. The Leopold, the Morser Karl, and the 88mm Flak kits are being selectively dissected for the parts that I need multiples of, and the Airfix Hovercraft as well.
It's not even so much that I am making copies of those parts for building Cowboy's ship, but for building several others from this film as well. The Akir Weather Satellite, Cayman's ship, the Malmori Sonic Tank, and the Malmori Drone fighter all use parts from the Leopold, the Morser Karl, and the 88mm Flak kits, and before I commit the styrene parts to Cowboy's model, I am making copies to bag, label, and set aside so that when I do tackle doing the other models, I have many of the parts prepped and ready to go!
Additionally, I am racing the clock to have Cowboy's ship done by the end of May for the Wonderfest show. No big deal, as we have enough parts ID'd to do the build, right? Ah, but it's Spring in East Tennessee! Getting the garden sorted and keeping the house and property properly attended to, a week of mandatory vacation - use it or lose it - (with my very patient wife!) means being out of town. Thirty days *might* be enough time!

Hey Lee,
I see the following:
Red circle marked 1 looks like a plastruct HEMI on a piece of tubing sized slightly large with the opposite being a dished dome with one of the larger green lamps on it... not clear enough to see well though.

#2 is clear enough, they are a set of EMA/Plastruct PMC (pump motor controls) they come in various sizes here is just one example.

I hope that helps. If I get more time, I will dig in the other photos. The last one next to my circled #2 looks like one of the white markers (glued upside down on the angle ) you have in the picture above mounted to another piece.

... and a year later - some progress. The Moonship (Glencoe or re-issue Hawk) parts 11 & 12 make up the leg cylinder tanks. You just trim the upper and lower flanges off, and they are a match. The ones that I had made up from other bits now go into the un-sorted misc build supply box, since they are slightly too big for this model ...

The legs are now attached at a 45-degree angle to the central tube, and have their outer sleeve on. These will get strip-stock added, six 1-mm tall strips.

Lee S. had suggested I check one of the older Bandai 1/48 scale Elefant for parts, and he was right again! The box I thought I had from a Esci 1/72 Elefant was the correct one, just too small. The 1/48 Bandai version is the same box, just correctly sized.

Making some progress! About 75% of the parts are accurate. There's very little reference except from the BluRay/DVD. There is a 1/48th Tiger I part that was found yesterday and will be updated later. On to the rest of it.
