RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - daverep - 02-06-2014

Interested to see how you put this together. I'm trying to make the same decision on mine. I'd hate to permanently attach my two halves together in case I have to rewire something down the road. Nice job and great idea! Good luck with this!!!

RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - peza - 02-09-2014

eh up all, i`ve been doin abit more this week,firstly i got the 2 halves to join together with my newly cut down bolts which will be hidden in the leg bays.
and the bolts i used i surrounded them with some superfine milliput and shaped them up to help guide the bolts into place here are some images
and i hope this is a help for you dave!
[attachment=15564][attachment=15565][attachment=15566][attachment=15567]
next i started to get back on the ramp again i had a close look at the hinge i made and it had started to snap so i had to fix it and beef it up alittle,
the next job is to glue the top half of the ramp in place and here are some images of that for you jase!
[attachment=15568][attachment=15569][attachment=15570]
my next job is to start knockin up the cockpit,and i`m in 2 minds to put the mind your head red light`s in the model,does anybody have any thoughts?
cheers all i`m gonna have another play on it 2nite....pezaSmile

RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - peza - 02-13-2014

eh up all,
i`ve got abit more done this week.
i wanted to carry on with the front magnets by the mandibles but due to me not havin any milliput i`ve had to put that on the back burner til this weekend,so i started to knock up the cockpit...
first off i made a jig for it,[attachment=15581] then shaped up some cardboard around it to use as my template.after i cut out the card i made up 2 copys on half mil thick styrene with an inch overlap and glued the two edges down in position...[attachment=15582]
next i made up abit of the tunnel extenion(i think it looked to short)...[attachment=15583]
and finally i got the whole thing sittin pretty,[attachment=15584]and then started to doddle where the windows should beHuh...[attachment=15585]
oh and i liberated this thin sheet copper from work to made the grill that goes around the tunnel ny the cockpit,but this is gonna take me a good while to get done,if i dont bugger it up![attachment=15586]
sorry for the little progress at the mo,cheers peza

RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - peza - 02-19-2014

eh up all,i managed to get the windows cut out and lined with some half mil thick styrene.i had to use me pin vice and me toe snippers..er!
but i had to cut out each window one at the time just to drop the risk of splittin the cone. [attachment=15589][attachment=15590][attachment=15591]
and here is acouple of images of the finished bit,i`ve not done awt with the copper as yet but i`ll have a go tonight and do a little more on it!
[attachment=15593][attachment=15592]
hope ya like...cheers peza

eh up all,
i got a little update on the cockpit nose cone,first off i armour plated it where i think they are from what i can tell!
[attachment=15594]
next i started makin up the front circular window,which i used some plastic plumber`s pipe and some 1 mil thick styrene it came out really well hope ya like.[attachment=15595][attachment=15596]
cheers peza

RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - peza - 03-02-2014

eh up all,
i`ve finally got the copper grillin finished today and i`ve given it a coat of primer but i have`nt taken an image of it at that stage yet,

here are some images of my progress,and i`ll write my way through it

first off i finished cuttin all the marks i made every 2 mil.and got it mounted
[attachment=15620]
next i looked at it and the gaps were well to big so i made a load of extra pieces to fill in the gaps and there was a few
[attachment=15621]
so i started it off the other day and it took awhile to do it all,but here is the finished article,i put black electrical tape round it so i did`nt scratch it when filin it all down just to tidy it up.
[attachment=15622]

so thats it for tonight,hope ya like i`ll do some more tomorrow..cheers peza

I'm really enjoying the updates Peza, it's looking very cool. Those cockpit windows remind me of building the delicate frames on my Storm Crow build. It drives you nuts cutting those fine shapes out and edging the openings doesn't it?Smile

I'd add all the lights if you can, including the underside courtesy lights seen in ESB. You can always with them on separate circuits to make the model appear in any configuration. Keep up the good work mate. I love the look of a hand built model.

Jase, I can also post this in the Research section as well...maybe in my Visual Kit list thread? Just let me know and I'll be happy to put this over there too. I need to go through that Visual Kit List and update that too at some point.

So, here's my kit list that I've cobbled together over the past year.

TBH, none of this is my own work except for compiling the list. Most, if not all, came from scouring threads in the 32" Falcon Research Section. All I've done is copied and pasted when someone makes a positive kit ID. So, it really is kind of redundant, but I'm more than happy to post it nonetheless.

My hat is off to everyone who has spent countless hours researching and doing the Part IDing. You guys are incredibly amazing! Big Grin

RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - peza - 03-09-2014

eh up all.
i managed to get the cockpit finished and the tunnel attached to the main model,firstly i had to cut the old tunnel back abit because with the grillin and the cockpit it just stud out to far.so usin my dremel i cut the tunnel back and removed the armour plates that would get damaged or need replacin.
[attachment=15633]
[attachment=15634]
i cut it and messed it up abit,so i had to line the inner of the tunnel with some half mm thick styrene,after that i covered the gap with some milliput white(superfine) and used a wooden ice lolly stick to shape it up roughly,with a little but of water at the end just to get it nice and smooth,and i wont have to sand it back much!
[attachment=15635]
[attachment=15636]
then i had to put the armour plates back on,some went on and fitted just the same but some needed to be cut back and some needed to be made new
[attachment=15637]
[attachment=15638]
finally a coat of primer and it`s some our alright.
[attachment=15639]
[attachment=15640]
so thats it for the cockpit,i`m gonna leave the interior for now and do some work on the side detail`s and the dockin rings..hope ya like the progress so far..cheers peza

RE: millenium falcon 32" my story so far - peza - 03-11-2014

eh up all,
here`s another post for ya,and this one`s got me nervous,i was gonna buy some of mensa boys smart bits,but i`ve been told by the bettwer half that we can`t afford!Angry
so i`m havin to made the Porsche gearbox bits myself,i`ve not finished it yet but here`s my progress so far.

first off i made the skin for the mandible on the cockpit side,just to get the size of the gearbox bit to scale.i used some 1mm thick styrene and the sheath of a pen for the circular shape because it was the only thing in the house that was the same size`ish.
[attachment=15659]
next i made up some ribs for the skin to form to and put a doube skin of styrene,because the top is shaped up with a curve.
[attachment=15660]
then a skin on that part of it.
[attachment=15661]
and then a coat of primer,once that had dried i started on the coolin ribs,which i think is gonna take me awhile.
[attachment=15662]
well that`s it for now i`ll post some more when i`ve got a fair bit more done.hope ya like cheers pezaBig Grin

Jase,
Yes, sir! I certainly can! You're talking about the original ones you posted in the Reference section, right? And do you want me to PM or email you any updates? Or just post them?

Peza, nice work! BTW, if you think about it, could you snap a photo of the bottom part of your hull where the cockpit meets the hull and send it to me? I'm having a hell of a time visualizing how the tube sits in the inside of the hull. I'd appreciate it!
