RE: SULACO Big scale - LastBattlestar - 10-03-2010

Fantastic, Leukirix!

SOOOOO much panel and scribing detail. I really like your greebling style- it isn't easy to do, but yours looks very functional and proportional to the scale of the ship. Thanks for sharing!

Chris, the original Sulaco model is in Bob Burns' collection, which means stacked up against a wall surrounded by clutter. He also has the APC R/C model, Alien Queen puppet and the forced=perspective Narcissus shuttle in it's docking bay. I can't recall the rest, but I think a few Aliens warrior costumes are there too. He has a website. I emailed Bob a couple of years back asking for just the length of the Sulaco so that I could establish a scale for blueprints. He never got back to me. Yeah, I wanted to build this as my next large project, but it has been replaced by a ESB medical frigate idea recently.Smile

I'm pretty much speechless!

OMG,this was already incredible but now ya really showing just how incredible it is going to be.Thats some real fine looking work mate, and this thing really has that total wow factor about it being the size that it is n all,but most importantly it really looks the part.
Very impressive man!!

RE: SULACO Big scale - 427 Cobra - 10-10-2010

I love this - especially since it's in styrene! I just my builds could be 100% styrene based, but I need the acrylic for stability. I'll just reinforce my hulls with fibreglas from now on. I couldn't get away with it on some parts though. Sad Did you build this on a wooden base, or acrylic/persplex?

RE: SULACO Big scale - leukirix - 10-10-2010

I used styrene, 100%. I used too an iron tube to strengthen and polyurethane froth...Tongue

And for the scale, I think is good... No ??Cool

Christ, Franck - Yours looks a little bigger, but both are huge!!!

The tail end of yours looks a little bit bigger around in the circular area, but it's hard to tell without measuring both. It looks spot on detail wise.

RE: SULACO Big scale - dbhs - 10-10-2010

This is amazing. I can't wait to see you start painting it. I went through the pictures on your photoalbum and there is some very complicated geometry on this ship. You're doing a great job. I really like some of the other smaler fighter craft you have there too. Did you design them?

Holy Crap !!!

Insanely awesome. I wouldn't mind seeing a photo of you with it for scale. I know it's big. Lot's of weathering on there too. Nice work.

RE: SULACO Big scale - leukirix - 02-14-2011

Hi,

Some pix here. You can see that my Sulaco is not exactly like original. Because, it's very difficult to identify part maps and all the details... And I like re-created some parts.

You can see that it can be dismantled.
For the kit list, I could find this with pixs modelermagic.com :

- M60A2 1/35 Tamiya
- Flakpanzer gepard 1/35 Tamiya
- SDKFZ 223 1/35 Tamiya
- Kettenkrad 1/9 Revell (not sur)

RE: SULACO Big scale - LastBattlestar - 02-14-2011

Wow, this model is just crazy man!Smile

I'm impressed at the level of detail- the panel scribing and plating looks 100% to me. I also like your greebling style, it's tricky taking a pile of kit parts and making them look functional and cool at the same time. Great job!

It must be great having a certain amount of freedom to detail a model without having to worry about getting every single greeblie correct. My next major build will be freestyle all the way baby!

Mike

RE: SULACO Big scale - JAWS - 02-15-2011

Incredible mate. Accurate or not it looks the parts. No one would ever say anything to the contrary. Thanks for sharing this beauty with us.
So whats next Leukirix?

RE: SULACO Big scale - leukirix - 02-16-2011

Thanks at all !

The next build : Falcon 5F and arcadia 8F (Captain Harlock)... I find this ship great ! I buy the Bandai kit 1/1000 scale today...

RE: SULACO Big scale - dbhs - 02-16-2011

Wow - those detailed pictures are great. Is the weathing all or mostly airbrushed? I'm going to stick to pastels until I'm better with an airbrush. Very cool. and I like the different colors you used it the painting/weathering.

RE: SULACO Big scale - Zark - 07-17-2011
