You can buy these in single guages instead of whole sets, so that you can build in the correct scale, and not run out. Ah,now thats just a total load of BS there my friend.You are more than capable of building something over the top like myself is trying ta do and plenty others are,have and do tackle also mate.I think the problem would be more so the extra time you'd take with all the fine little touches that you just have that incredible knack of doing to all of em.
So no more BS about can't build em,how about doing something insane and doing just that then?

You can do it, but you have to just to prove it!! These things are beasts, which is why none of them are finished yet. Kit ID'ing and scratching the surface of reference photos are what take the most time other than ensuring these are accurate and in scale. I'd rather be building a small studio scale kit, than a huge beast now!

Try to heat it with fire, once it's red, it's OK, let cool it down (dont use water, if you do, the string would break when trying to bend it).

Well that works well with my guitar strings, I even did on old strings from my fiancée's bass guitar. There's a kind of bass strings to avoid though. As for the guitar strings, any strings for electric or acoustic will do the trick, you just have to avoid the nylon ones of course !
Oh and this trick works well also for the PE parts, when you have to do a cylinder from a PE plate.

On a more serious note though- if you do happen to have some "extras" I certainly could find a use for them in other projects? I can't think of anyone I know with used strings now? Although a very long time ago I had my own.

For those asking themselves- where's the progress pics!
I'm in the middle of remodeling the shop. I've always had enough space but lacked more working surface. I've been scouring the local home improvement centers and buying up cabinets and countertops to accomplish that. Only the "clearance" items which I then "negotiate" down cheaper! Had some great scores and am now in process of moving many things around (stacks and stacks of kits!) to assemble sixteen feet of new countertops! I'll have some elbow room to work soon!

Why thank you there me featered mate,i'll be more than happy ta use that when explaining the pile of accumilation's i've got laying here.I also like the second reason also and it is very true,the only problem i have is finding what i want under all of it.Still it is at arms length there somewhere.

No. That's sort of half of one "great room" as some people call them. Originally I just had boxes and boxes and model kits stacked up there. I'd been doing my work in the "other half" until the "bench project". Even though I actually moved most of the kits elsewhere there was some overflow that piled up in the original half and that's what is now in my way!
It's like squeezing a tube of toothpaste while the cap is still on. You can move the contents around from one end to another but it's still gotta go somewhere!
I used to have two rented storage buildings just for all my accumulated hobby shit over all these years? Finally brought it all home and have been struggling to make some semblance of order out of it ever since?I would snap a pic of the previously unseen side of my "shop" but frankly it is waaaay too embarrassing.
